Self-Love and the Body

Who can really argue with Self-Love being a good thing?

I can’t either, but I must admit, before, it just felt like fluff.

Yes, I *should* love my body, because it’s good to be loving, but that never really gave me a true connection to it.

The thing that really turned it around for me was getting debilitatingly sick.

We forget how much our bodies do for us, we take them for granted, we use them, we abuse them - until we are in pain.

For the first time in my life I began to look at my body as something that I desperately needed, respected and appreciated. I stopped looking at my body from the lens of judgement and started to see it from the lens of compassion.

From that place, I saw an incredible organism that supports me in so many ways. Without it, without the conveniences of health that I so easily take for granted, where does that leave me?

My hope for you is that you never have to go through that in order to feel deep self-love.

My hope for you is that one day you can see your body with the same wonder and awe that you see a butterfly or a lion or an eagle.

My hope for you is that one day, you can look in the mirror and see your body for what it truly is: a beautiful, intelligent, magical miracle.

From THAT space, of deep appreciation, of awe and wonder - true, authentic self-love is born and never lost.
